Topic: Source Multiplayer Update Released

Tonight's Source update at first included a nasty bug, a looping Segmentation fault was resulting on all of our dedicated Source servers when they attempted to start; this was a wide-spread problem that effected many GSPs this evening - both modded and unmodded Source servers were effected.

Alfred Reynolds, one of the lead developers at Valve Software started working on the problem as soon as he was made aware of it (which wasn't long); Valve had a fix out within a couple of hours.

Initially, Valve was unable to reproduce this problem in their test lab, but some generous server admins provided Valve with access to their servers to see the problem first hand. The latest Source update has fixed the segmentation fault. Now, for details on tonight's first Source update.

Updates to the Source Multiplayer games have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Source Multiplayer

  • Improved multiplayer voice communication, now using a much clearer codec
  • First release of a completely reworked in game text chat to which now includes a chat history and a filter to only see important chat messages
  • Fixed not being able to use sounds, decals or models if they were downloaded from the server
  • Current Date & Time: Sat, 17 May 2008 07:48:22 -0500
